What have you read that inspired you to continuous personal development?

Posted by admin on Jun 29, 2009 under Personal Development

i need more in deep to how has it inspired you, we are all different and we therefore take different things from different books so I am really looking for what u have taking from this boos which helps you to improve your personality.
Some of the books are not typical self-development books - they are inspirational in other ways, they can help to see life differently - to understand ourselves and others, to value life while we are here, and to use our life positively to the fullest.

It wasn't anything I read - it was something my father told me.
He told me "never stop learning!"

What are some great weight-loss/healthy living books for young adults?

Posted by admin on Jun 29, 2009 under Healthy Living

I’m 20 years old, female. I’m about 175 right now, and would like to (in a healthy manner) lose about 35 pounds.

Are there any good books you’d recommend for my age?

There is a book you can get. It’s called The Rapid Fat Loss Handbook by Lyle McDonald. I don’t think it’s completely “healthy” and a lot of people on here will tell you that, but if you want to lose weight fast, it really works. You literally can lose 10 to 20 pounds of weight (of which 4 to 7 pounds of it is fat) in two weeks. I tried it myself right before a trip I took last year with all of my skinny girlfriends. I dropped about 10 pounds, but my jeans were big on me and I felt a lot thinner even in my face. This book has been a blessing to me, and I have shared it with many of my friends.

Ok, so the diet sucks and is really hard to stick to, but it is only for 2 weeks, and you can do anything for two weeks. It’s those long months on end diets for me that are too hard to stick to. So now I just use this diet for “damage control”. I eat what I want (in moderation), but when I gain a few pounds, I just do this diet for a couple of weeks and then I’m back down to where I want to be.

The diet is basically a protein sparing modified fast which means you only eat about 600-800 calories a day (the book details what you need for your body weight) but most of it comes from protein. The rest comes from one piece of cheese and unlimited vegetables (not corn, potatoes, carrots, or peas. There may be a couple of other no-no’s I can’t remember). So my meals basically consisted of an egg white and vegetable omlet for breakfast, a grilled chicken breast and steamed veggies for lunch, a piece of fat free string cheese as a snack, and grilled fish and steamed veggies for dinner. I also had to take Omega-3 supplements. On the upside, you do get one cheat meal per week and one carb loading meal. You can also drink as much diet soda as you want, which helped me.

I ordered it off of Amazon a year ago, but I just looked apparently it is out of print and it is not for sale there anymore. But go read the reviews on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Rapid-Fat-Loss-Handbook-Scientific/dp/0967145643/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1228895987&sr=1-1. I am a total skeptic on this kind of stuff, but I promise you it works. I just googled it and he is I guess now selling it in an ebook http://rapidfatlosshandbook.com/ . You might also want to try ebay or half-priced books.

Only do this diet for 2 weeks and then take a break. Keep in mind this is not a really healthy way to lose weight, but it does work. And at least you’re eating healthy food and not completely starving yourself.

You will have to have a lot of will power on this diet, but if you can stick to it, it will work.

Anyway, I hope this helps you. Good luck!!!!!

What are some natural remedies for mental illnesses?

Posted by admin on Jun 29, 2009 under Natural Remedies

I need some “mind soothing” natural remedies. I just ordered some stuff actually called “mind soothe” but I was wondering if there is anyone who uses aroma therapy or anything else that is unusual and if it actually helps. In addition to medication. I am trying to take a little control myself in getting myself to feel better.

For anxiety:

Bach’s Rescue Remedy is always good to have on hand for attacks.

Also the following nutrients are usually helpful:
Multivitamin & mineral complex
B-Complex
Vitamin C
(For nutritional balance and adrenal support)
Calcium 2000 mg daily - a natural tranquilizer
Magnesium 600 mg daily - relieves tension, spasms, tics
B-1 50mg 3 times daily - has a calming effect on the nerves.
B-6 50mg 3 times daily - important in the production of certain brain chemicals.
Zinc- 50 mg daily - can have a calming effect
Chromium Picolinate - 200 mcg. daily - Chromium deficiency can produce symptoms of anxiety.
Aromatherapy - Lavender

Depression:
St. John’s Wort, B-12, Choline & inositol
Exercise
Aromatherapy - Lemon, orange, ylang-ylang

What style of self-defense would be best for someone with no experience?

Posted by admin on Jun 29, 2009 under Self Help

I'm not athletic or very flexible, but I'm hoping to learn some self defense. Is there one that will be able to give me some skill in the art, but will not be too demanding in the beginning? I've heard that most forms of self-defense require a minimum level of fitness in the beginning.
Yes, I could carry a weapon, but that's not always possible in case of a attack. For example, a lot of places don't allow pepper spray.

in your case, i would just carry some pepper spray or a tazer.

What Self Help/Improvement Books Had Most Positive Effect For Your Desired Goals and Changes?

Posted by admin on Jun 29, 2009 under Self Improvement

After seeing Larry King's show last night on "The Secret" I am interested in what other people have read regarding self improvement for gaining more success and life fulfillment. The Secret to me seems to be repetitive as far as other self help methods plus "Law of Attraction" principles written about from everyone Wayne Dyer, Tony Robbins, Norman V Peal, The Magic of Believing and of course the Bible is filled with "ask and ye shall receive." Of course things aren't always that simple for everyone, especially that people's mind sets are unique and what works for one doesn't necessarily work beneficially to others. There are so many self help method books and DVD's out there now, so I would like to see what you guys have used that made real life changing breakthroughs and helped improve your finances, relationships, goals, jobs, whatever

I haven't read many, but I did like "Your Erroneous Zones" by Wayne Dyer.

I am looking for a personal development group in Sydney Australia. Anyone know a good place to look ?

Posted by admin on Jun 28, 2009 under Personal Development

I'm not looking for a 12 step program. I want a bunch of people motivated towards self development.

A great place to start looking is in a Magazine called Nova. They have ads for groups and seminars etc…

Nova is a free giveaway mag that is available at most New Age type outlets and many health food stores.

Sydney is a very happening place, I feel SURE that you can find SOMETHING to get you started.

going along to a workshop or seminar is a great first step to meeting new people with a common interest.

I wish you luck.

Natural remedies for children who have attention problems?

Posted by admin on Jun 28, 2009 under Natural Remedies

First, I want to make it clear that my son has not been diagnosed with any attention problem, but he is having difficulties in paying attention and following instructions at home and at school (he is 7 years old). We do make sure he is getting at least 10 hours of sleep per night and that his diet is healthy. Do you know of any natural remedies or supplements that could help him out? Drugs are out of the question. Thank you!
