How far is musical education vital to personal development?

Posted by admin on Jul 30, 2009 under Personal Development

Who has the answer….?

Music helps to heal a great many things within ourselves. Its like the lit candle of awareness in an otherwise dark conciousness.Something that some cling to because its their only friend or their piece of hope left to them. For some its a desire and for others its a passion. And for many many its a strength unto itself it does what other things can not such as evoke memories, create moments, and unify a great many all at once.
When a woman is pregnant they tell her to play music or even sing to the unborn baby. Not just so the baby will recognize her voice but also to stimulate the baby. They say playing music to an unborn baby helps them mentally develope and grow. When my daughter was in my belly we did in fact play her classical music and she had her favorites she would roll inside of me and kick me and some music would put her right to sleep. It was a stimuli for her the lit candle of awareness in an otherwise dark conciousness.
Some say it isn’t vital but could you imagine a world without music?Could you imagine a world where people didn’t further their knowledge of music or pushed themselves to go deeper into their own music?I certainly couldn’t and I don’t think those who have a true gift given to them such as instruments or words that create the flow of songs or even those who just hear the music itself or those who were born to sing.
I think its vital to all of us.And especially those who truly feel the passion to learn more for those gifted enough to be more.I think its vital to ALL personal development but we are individuals and the choice to know more is singularly ours…

How does healthy living fit in with current society?

Posted by admin on Jul 30, 2009 under Healthy Living

Do you think society encourages a healthy lifestyle, or encourages an unhealthy lifestyle? Do you think society ever discourages a healthy lifestyle?

What do you imagine most people think of when they hear "healthy"? All-natural foods? A healthy weight? Being in-shape? A combination of several things?

How can you tell if someone is unhealthy?

I’m simply curious to see what kinds of opinions people have about this broad topic. Write as much or as little as you like about any or all of the questions, or include another aspect of health and society if you have another opinion.

I think we’re tempted into an unhealthy lifestyle, but society encourages us not to take the bait and become obese. Obesity is generally is generally frowned upon in America, and people are encouraged to go to the gym and shop for more healthy foods. However, some people aren’t able to resist the loads of unhealthy foods.

I think someone who is seen as "healthy" has a well-balanced diet (meaning a reasonable amount food from each section of the food pyramid), exercises every day, and maintains a low amount of fat.

Someone who is unhealthy is usually obese, or can be found sitting around a lot. There are other types of unhealthy too, like people who smoke, take drugs, or have some sort of illness. Those can’t always be recognized by sight.

Could the "Holistic Model" incorporate one’s spirituality into the healing process?

Posted by admin on Jul 30, 2009 under Holistic Healing

Thank you both. I thought so — just when I went onto the web and read definitions it neglected to mention "spirtuality" so I thought I should ask. — Is there anyway to pick 2 top answers? :)
Yes it should because holistic healing is about balancing the mind, body and spirit. You can’t get well if your spirit is depressed or unwilling.

Does anyone know of any natural remedies for dog allergies?

Posted by admin on Jul 30, 2009 under Natural Remedies

My labrador has horrible allergies. She’s been to the vet several times and has been treated with everything from steriod and cortizone shots to antibiotics to shampoos and anti-itch creams and more. While the symptoms will go away after each treatment, they always come back and I hate to see her suffering from constant itching (not to mention all the treatments are getting ridiculously expensive and they don’t solve the problem long-term anyway). Does anyone have any suggestions or know of any homopathic/natural remedies? Thanks.

Grain free diet. If this scratching is all year round than he is allergic to his food. Up to 70% of dogs are allergic to corn, wheat, soy and/or barley. Go to your local natural pet food store and tell them you need a good grain free diet. Try to find wellness core reduced fat if you can as most grain free diets can cause a lab to gain weight (most food can cause a lab to gain). If the problem continues get some Azmira Aller’G. This is a natural supplement that will help his system to defend itself. If you smoke please do so outside as this can also cause these problems. If the problems continue after six weeks than add some salmon oil or flax-seed oil to her food. this will get her omega 3/6 balance out. Good luck!

My self cleaning oven keeps catching fire on the inside - what do I do?

Posted by admin on Jul 30, 2009 under Self Help

I just went to clean my self-cleaning oven and a huge fire caught in the inside of the oven. The door is locked, so I can’t even open it to pour baking soda on it. I turned the oven off and the fire seems to have gone away, but I don’t know what to do! Can I not clean my oven or something?

opening the door would have made the fire worse. it went away. clean gunk out first- don’t let grease pile up. I assume it isn’t a CONTINUOUS clean- otherwise this wouldn’t happen.

We seem to naturally overlook our own shortcomings. Are we thus ‘programmed’ not to work for self-improvement?

Posted by admin on Jul 30, 2009 under Self Improvement

The real question here is whether the ‘intelligent design’ has some hidden agenda in making us less conducive to self improvement, as different from and opposed to the biological design naturally gearing our body for continuous improvement.

I am not sure if there is an innate tendency to overlook or dismiss our shortcomings. If there were, I don’t think we, as a society, would have advanced to the level that we have. However, presupposing that there is an evolved predilection (since I don’t believe in Intelligent Design) towards ignoring our shortcomings; couldn’t that actually works towards our advantage?

Now at first this may seem odd to say that an instinctive desire to cast aside our shortcomings works towards our benefit, but you must also consider the flip side of being preoccupied with personal shortcomings. Many times fear and depression are the result of being focused too much on our shortcomings, which ultimately will have a stultifying effect on personal progress. Hence, there is a good evolutionary strength behind being sometimes oblivious to our shortcomings so that we can overcome the immediate task at hand.
