what therapy (and what does this involve) would a psychologist use to help one with self esteem issues?

Posted by admin on Jun 25, 2010 under Self Help

what does this type of therapy involve.
I have been speaking to a psychologist for 6 weeks now because I was ostracized by my husband’s entire family but all I have done is talk to the psychologist about whatever I feel like talking about. I have plenty of friends to do that with (and they are free).

There’s quiet a few.

The best for most depression & anxiety is

Cognitive Behaviour therapy, see link.

Free too.

There’s also Rational Emotive Therapy

invented by Albert Elis.

And many others.

Client Centred Counselling is good too.

And may others too.

I’m interested in talking to other people who have the same beliefs or interests.. If you’re just going to be ignorant, keep your comments to yourself.

Natural remedies to reduce swelling and get rid of bruising?

Posted by admin on Jun 21, 2010 under Natural Remedies

I pulled my quad playing softball and its really swollen and extremely bruised. Ive been to the doctor and everything .and so I have a prognosis. I just want the swelling to go down. Any natural home remedies to reduce swelling (other than the RICE method) and any remedies to getting rid of bruises quickly ??
Thanks!

this is probably too late for now but if you put it on right away arnica is an herb that can reduce bruising quite successfully I have read. Be sure it is the herb and not a homopathic one which many are]

One like herbpharm arnica oil would be recommended. You could get some now for the future and try it but I am not sure if it will help once the bruising sets in.

there are some suggestions here though that may well help

be sure you try to get organic herbs and if possible tinctures (these are liquid extracts with brown glass bottles with eye dropper tops) rather than capsuled herbs for best results

How do I write a Personal Development Plan ?

Posted by admin on Jun 18, 2010 under Personal Development

I have been asked at work to write a Personal Development Plan to be submitted to me by Friday. Where do I start, what do they want to know about me ? are there any examples or templates I could use as a good starting point ?

There are lots of templates if you google it - and I think there’s one on the businesslink website too. You can alter it to suit your business and role.

What is a holistic treatment for an inguinal hernia?

Posted by admin on Jun 18, 2010 under Holistic Healing

My father is going on his FOURTH surgery to correct this inguinal hernia. Are there any holistic, alternative, change of eating habits, to heal this problem? since surgery is not working.

Unfortunately not.
This is obviously a weak point in your fathers body. Other than balancing the relationship between the hernia and pelvic floor so that the organs are not to compressed and keeping the core muscles strong
there is no substitute for surgery in this case.
The other options may help to prevent recurrence.

what are some natural remedies to treat really bad anxiety?

Posted by admin on Jun 18, 2010 under Natural Remedies

ive got really bad anxiety, and so far the onlt thing thats really helped it thats totally natural is marijuana, but i cant always get it cuz im 14 and i dont always have the money, so i was just wondering if anyone knew any cheap effective natural remedies, thanks!

Cutting caffeine and sugar will help, but doing some moderate exercise (walking, jogging, etc) can help quite a bit as well.
If you would like some added help, there are some natural products for stress and anxiety. Some of the most popular are GABA, L-Theanine, Rhodiola Rosea, 5-HTP, and L-Tryptophan.

I need a good self help book?

Posted by admin on Jun 18, 2010 under Self Help

I lead a very busy life and dont have time for therapy sessions even though I think I really need some. I would like to try self therapy for the time being.

I am only 22 yet I feel like a bitter old lady. I become frustrated by the simplest things. Things that used to make me happy dont any more. I find it is easier to shut out my friends then tolerate them, and the ones who dont leave are borderline abused. I cant handle stupid people and dont make friends easily because of it. I find myself more alone but hating it. I dont want to feel angry anymore. I know that all I need is to reach a positive state of mind and keep it, a happy place if you will, and I need some guide lines about getting there and keeping it. Has anyone read a book about meditation? positive mind attitude? calm and peaceful thinking? I need something that makes sense and works WITHOUT turning to religion.
.

if your seeking a book for help that is not self help that is just help. it take just as much time to get help as it is to read a book . i know i had hundreds of them let me save you some time and money slow down and get a little unbusy find away to do that. meditation is a state blankness no thought. if you have an intolerance for things and people that you used to maybe your life is to hectic and you need to unclutter your mind and breath. it is like you have been up 29 hours studying for a test you have no tolerance for any ones trivial bs but once you have rested things seem a whole lot different relax you are young and there are a plethora of books on that subject and one no better than the other its like writing on the subject of riding a bike end the end they will all say the same thing just get out there and ride if you fall off get up and do it again until you get it right . hope you Get better

Can you be a counselor or give advice (life-coach/ Self improvement) with a Bachelors degree in psychology?

Posted by admin on Jun 18, 2010 under Self Improvement

I really want to do like self help, self improvement, spiritual (non-religious) counseling, life coaching…..

If you can, what are some restrictions?
For example, can you give advice (personal advice)?
etc….

I’m going to start my masters in MFT in August, but I want to do some counseling to gain experience while im doing it. I’m really entrepreneurial, so I want to do this as a business, like doing group and individual sessions. Any advice; anything helps. Thanks all!

It is against the law in many areas to present yourself as a counselor, social worker, psychologist, etc.without having a state license and the appropriate degree, which is at least a master’s. In your course work for an MFT you will have some kind of internship, where you will learn how to do counseling under the supervision of an experienced therapist. Most therapists, even those in private practice have a supervisory or consulting relationship with another therapist to help them when they run into difficult situations or feel they are moving in the wrong direction with a client. Would you know what to do with a suicidal client? With someone who is being abused? Will you know when a depressed person needs referral to a psychiatrist? Do you know what resources are available to help people? Suppose someone was unhappy with you as a therapist and decided to sue you for malpractice? Counseling is more than just having a pleasant chat with someone or handing out advice. There are issues of timing, deciding what approach will work with a particular client, ethical issues- all kinds of things that I doubt you are prepared for at this point.

Please, do not attempt a practice without supervision. At the very least, it is unethical and as I mentioned above, likely to be illegal.

Where can I study aromatherapy or holistic healing online?

Posted by admin on Jun 7, 2010 under Holistic Healing

I am the type of person who gets bored with routine very quickly, so I would like to follow a career where I can do many different things. I have wanted to go into holistic/alternative healing for a very long time, but coming from a protestant family these things were considered "taboo".

Now I have finally changed my life around and would like to follow my dreams. With some fields I would like to study, like hypnotherapy and reiki, I know I have to attend classes at professional schools. That will come later. For now I would like to study something like aromatherapy which do not require me attending classes.

Where is the best place to study this online and what other alternative healing methods are there besides aromatherapy (which I can study online)?

Aromatherapy uses essential oils extracted from nature’s herbs and flowers. The aroma is inhaled, or applied to the skin, and each of the oils (or combination thereof) addresses a specific disorder. It appears that the body is able to utilize the healing properties of the oils through the olfactory system of the body, and so initiate the healing process. Aromatherapy practitioners would also have an understanding of the psychological and emotional factors of illness.

This website has some great information and articles about Aromatherapy.
