What are the best natural remedies to lower "stress hormones", particularly cortisol?

Posted by admin on Feb 26, 2010 under Natural Remedies

Before people answer, I truly am very aware that the best approach is to simply reduce anxiety and stress. Sometimes though it’s nice to have a little helping hand, as stress hormones like cortisol can be harmful to the body. I was just wondering what natural remedies are best at balancing cortisol :)

I heard Rhodiola Rosea, Ashwaganha and Reishi Mushroom are good but I don’t really know, and would love some opinions!

Thanks guys :)
The natural and most effective way is to take DHEA, this is a hormonal precursor made by the adrenal glands, but over time less and less is produced. It is the direct antagonist in the body to cortisol. DHEA can be purchased otc in any supplement store, start with 25mg daily and work up gradually to to 100mg a day.

Do you know a good recepie or natural remedies for control a frequent heartburn?

Posted by admin on Feb 16, 2010 under Natural Remedies

I looking for natural remedies to control o reduce a frequent heartburn mor than pils.If you know some god recepie pleas let me know. Thank’s.

The best control is prevention. You need to find your heartburn trigger and steer clear of it. Personally I cant do anything high in acidity or very spicy as well as milk (though I do indulge in moderation). Never lay back after eating or sit back in a comfortable reclined position. Drink an 8oz glass of water 10 minutes prior to eating so your stomach is fuller which can help prevent you from overeating (which is a regular cause of heartburn) and always wait 10-15 minutes after eating to go for seconds. It takes approximately 10 minutes for your body to realize it is full which gives you ample time to stuff yourself past brimming which can cause heartburn.

A drink of baking soda water (which tastes like a combination wet dog and dirty feet :P ) can help rid you of your heartburn when it hits.

If your heartburn isn’t caused by over eating try slowly eating a piece of bread, toast, or saltine crackers (my grandma always gave me crackers which would help when I was younger)

Sucking on a peppermint (which is why restaurants used to give them at the end of your meal with your check) Peppermint soothes your stomach. I’m sure you could do a drink of peppermint oil and sip it slowly.

Also, thenoseknows is correct. Antacids are horrible for you and neutralize your natural stomach acid you need to digest food which causes your stomach much more problems than it cures.

Natural remedies?

Are there any natural remedies out there for ovulating more often. I started tracking my temperature in October and have noticed I only ovulate every three months. I’ve seen my doctor, hormones are normal and the next step is the HSG procedure which I keep putting off because of expense and pain. Does anyone have any suggestions about natural remedies. I don’t have a lot of time. I’m 42.
Thanks in advance

Yes, taking vitex (chaste tree berry) help regulate cycles…It takes a couple months of regular use to see good results but it works and it’s safe to take until your 3 months pregnant or when your breastfeeding. The reason why they say only the first 3 months of pregnancy is because after that it can start to encourage milk production too early.

Natural remedies for psoriasis on nails and head?

Posted by admin on Jan 9, 2010 under Natural Remedies

I have had psoriasis on my thumb and forefinger since I’ve been 2, and I am looking for natural or OTC remedies to clear it up.

Hi, you can try one of the natural treatments for psoriasis from the Internet - some of them do actually work. For my psor. I use herbal cream by Champori quite successfully. It takes just a couple of weeks to clear the spots and they stay clear for months on end.
Try it: champori is available without prescription and comes with money back guarantee so if it doesn’t work for you - it’s free.

What are some natural remedies without medicatons for sleeping at night?

Posted by admin on Dec 17, 2009 under Natural Remedies

I’m prescribed lunesta, but i don’t take it because it leaves a terrible taste in my mouth all day the next day. What are some better ways to help me sleep at night? I usually just end up staying up for 2 or three nights straight and then i sleep really good that next night. but i wish i could actually sleep good every night. I hate taking medicine though. so anybody know any natural remedies. I do drink coffee but only in the morning. You don’t think i should give up coffee do you?

I tried lunesta too. It did not work very well as a sleep aid, and I agree about the terrible taste. Many people should not drink coffee after 3 PM. It’s unlikely you should give up your morning coffee unless you are hypersensitive to caffeine.

Below is a long list I once wrote about ways to fall asleep. The list is so long that reading it might put you to sleep :-) This list is the one that Tony I copied and pasted from me without my permission.

If nothing below works, email me and I can give you some suggestions about over the counter and prescription meds, if necessary. However, the natural remedies below are safer and free of side effects.

What helped me a lot to fall asleep, especially when my mind was racing, was to lie in bed and listen to relaxation CDs, especially those that contain someone speaking with relaxing music in the background. The combination of voice and music is very soothing. Many of these CDs are available on eBay for very low prices.

A warm bath is a great way to help you to sleep (depending on the season). If you can’t take a bath, you can give yourself a foot massage with slightly warm massage oil, sesame oil, or castor oil from a health food store.

A helpful technique is to relax your body one part at a time. So you could relax your feet, your lower legs, upper legs, moving up from your lower belly up to your chest, etc., until your whole body is relaxed.

Of course, guided relaxation methods can help. As vividly as possible, imagine yourself at the beach, in the mountains or country, or whatever is most soothing to you.

If you have annoying thoughts that run through your mind when you are trying to sleep, you might have to talk to a counselor or therapist about that. I suggest avoiding prescription sleeping pills unless nothing else helps.

There are herbs that might help you to sleep, eg, valerian root, kava kava, chamomile, hops, passion flower, skullcap. Probably, valerian root and kava kava are the best. However, what most people don’t realize is that it can take at least a few weeks for some herbs to build up in your system before they start to work.

The minerals calcium and magnesium might be helpful for sleep. You can also try 5-HTP or melatonin. I would not take melatonin for over a month unless your doctor says it is ok.

What are some natural remedies to boost fertility?

Posted by admin on Nov 2, 2009 under Natural Remedies

We’ve been TTC for over a year now and before we start any medical procedures (drugs and shots…yikes!) I’d like to explore some natural remedies. Any suggestions on what has or hasn’t worked for you?

Thanks!!

I don’t know of any natural remedies but the following really helps:
-eliminate caffeine (sodas, tea, chocolate, coffee)
-use chlorine-free personal hygiene products
-start taking a prenatal vitamin (for the folic acid and the iron)
-drink orange juice (also for the folic acid)
-don’t smoke, of course
-don’t eat tropical fruit, especially papaya - teh ingredients in papaya (called papain) can hinder conception. Papaya is used as a contraceptive by some tribes (really, this is true)
-get checked for mineral deficiencies (especially an iron deficiency that can make you anemic - especially if you have painful periods)
-and generally relax and let go. I’m sure that lots of people tell you this but it works (I know! … and now she’s 16 months old!).

Good luck!

Natural Remedies to Help a Chest Infection Please?

Posted by admin on Oct 29, 2009 under Natural Remedies

I feel like I have the start of a chest infec coming, I get them quite a bit when the weather starts to get cold so know when i’m feeling a bit run down.
Does anyone know any remedies for a bad chest that can stop a really bad one coming on?
Is there anything natural I can take to boost my imunity? I don’t want to take cough medicines etc because at this stage i’m not too sick, and cough medicines are usually quite strong. Thanks!

Well if you have any faith in alternative remedies then try chinese herbs and phosperous (homea-pathic). Also take a lot of vitamin C and drink warm water with honey and lemon. I promise this always helps me with chest infections. I barely ever have them.

I had a hysteroctomy performed which identified a "disorderly lining" what natural remedies to use to correct?

a hysteroctomy performed on my uterus and findings resulted in a "disorderly lining" what natural remedies to improve this.

If you had a hysterectomy, you no longer have a uterus…so it needs no correction. It’s gone. Surely they explained that to you before you signed consent for the operation.

Does anyone have any homemade/natural remedies for damaged nails?

Posted by admin on Oct 22, 2009 under Natural Remedies

Lately my finger nails have become really dry and nasty looking and they keep splitting at the top. Does anyone have any homemade/natural remedies? thank you.

You may need more moisture or less stress. Try rubbing a little warm olive oil into your cuticles every night and cover your hands with lotion whenever you can — especially at night. I find it helpful to use a heavier cream at night. If you use nail polish and remover, try to go without for a few weeks, and use a nail buffer and buffing creme, like Barielle. Nutrition can also play a role - make sure you’re getting enough protein and calcium, and stay away from any extremely low-fat diets - a little healthy fat (like olive, peanut, or canola oil) helps to keep your skin and nails healthy. If you have been under a lot of stress, try exercise or relaxation tapes to help you handle it without causing your body to suffer as much.
