Are there any natural remedies to get rid of tapeworms?

Posted by admin on May 4, 2010 under Natural Remedies

My five cats have tape worms, and the medicine every month is getting expensive. Are there any natural remedies to get rid of them? I heard garlic but it isn’t good for cats because it destroys red blood cells.

Tapeworms are tricky to kill. There are no safe natural remedies I am aware of. Sometimes you can get praziquantal (a tapeworm dewormer) at pet stores, but make sure the dewormer says it is for tapeworms.

However, if you’ve been treating them with medicine from your vet and they still have tapeworms, then I think it may be best for you to focus on why they keep getting tapeworms and concentrate on preventing the problem instead of treating it. Cats get tapeworms either from fleas or from eating rodents. With all five of your cats consistently getting tapeworms, I would suspect fleas first. If you can treat your cats for fleas, they’ll stop getting tapeworms.

Otherwise, you’ll have to keep them indoors to keep them from hunting rodents - or you might have a rodent problem inside your house that you need to address.

Since it’s a particular species of tapeworm that comes from fleas, your vet can help you figure out whether your cats are getting infected from fleas or rodents.

Which natural remedies work and which natural remedies don’t work?

Posted by admin on Mar 20, 2010 under Natural Remedies

It seems like everybody is going natural these days and using natural remedies instead of synthetic remedies to prevent and treat a variety of canine parasites and diseases. Have you tried any of these remedies? Which ones worked and which ones didn’t work?

Planting lavendar in your garden can deter fleas from your yard.
We had a bad infestation when we moved into our new place. We treated the house but couldn’t get them out of the yard.
Planted some lavendar bushes in each corner and now we are flea free (we still use monthly flea prevention too of coarse)

Could have been co-incidence but it worked for us!

Another one that worked for a friend of mine whos dog was having seizures was feeding green beans daily.
Sounds kooky but she weaned him off the meds he was on and fed the beans daily and he hasn’t had a seizure for years.

what are the natural remedies to detoxify mercury/led from the body?

Posted by admin on Mar 14, 2010 under Natural Remedies

what are the natural remedies to detoxify mercury/led from the body? Since DMSA pulls it out too fast and while you are on SSRI, its not a good feeling. Garlic is thought to speed up the natural detoxification process

Cilantro? Chlorella? Do they even work?
Also, which one would not interact with Celexa SSRI?

There is nothing in alternative medicine that will ‘detox’ mercury or lead. ‘Detox’ in this respect is a scam. You don’t have mercury or lead poisoning anyway. Garlic will have no ’speed up’ effect on liver or kidney function.

——-
EDIT: I should have mentioned to beware of detox scams, the internet is abound with them. First they alarm you that you are full of accumulated ‘toxins’, they they will try to sell you some quack remedy with no proper science to support it. Stay skeptical.

From Wiki:
"Body cleansing and detoxification have been referred to as an elaborate hoax used by con artists to cure nonexistent illnesses. Most doctors contend that the ‘toxins’ in question do not even exist.[16][17] In response, alternative medicine proponents frequently cite heavy metals or pesticides as the source of toxification, however no evidence exists that detoxification approaches have a measurable effect on these or any other chemical levels. Medical experts state that body cleansing is unnecessary as the human body is naturally capable of maintaining itself, with several organs dedicated to cleansing the blood and gut."

If you had mercury or lead poisoning, you would be extremely sick.

@Janie - you don’t need to be an expert in alt med to identify scams and lack of evidence!

What are the best natural remedies to lower "stress hormones", particularly cortisol?

Posted by admin on Feb 26, 2010 under Natural Remedies

Before people answer, I truly am very aware that the best approach is to simply reduce anxiety and stress. Sometimes though it’s nice to have a little helping hand, as stress hormones like cortisol can be harmful to the body. I was just wondering what natural remedies are best at balancing cortisol :)

I heard Rhodiola Rosea, Ashwaganha and Reishi Mushroom are good but I don’t really know, and would love some opinions!

Thanks guys :)
The natural and most effective way is to take DHEA, this is a hormonal precursor made by the adrenal glands, but over time less and less is produced. It is the direct antagonist in the body to cortisol. DHEA can be purchased otc in any supplement store, start with 25mg daily and work up gradually to to 100mg a day.

Do you know a good recepie or natural remedies for control a frequent heartburn?

Posted by admin on Feb 16, 2010 under Natural Remedies

I looking for natural remedies to control o reduce a frequent heartburn mor than pils.If you know some god recepie pleas let me know. Thank’s.

The best control is prevention. You need to find your heartburn trigger and steer clear of it. Personally I cant do anything high in acidity or very spicy as well as milk (though I do indulge in moderation). Never lay back after eating or sit back in a comfortable reclined position. Drink an 8oz glass of water 10 minutes prior to eating so your stomach is fuller which can help prevent you from overeating (which is a regular cause of heartburn) and always wait 10-15 minutes after eating to go for seconds. It takes approximately 10 minutes for your body to realize it is full which gives you ample time to stuff yourself past brimming which can cause heartburn.

A drink of baking soda water (which tastes like a combination wet dog and dirty feet :P ) can help rid you of your heartburn when it hits.

If your heartburn isn’t caused by over eating try slowly eating a piece of bread, toast, or saltine crackers (my grandma always gave me crackers which would help when I was younger)

Sucking on a peppermint (which is why restaurants used to give them at the end of your meal with your check) Peppermint soothes your stomach. I’m sure you could do a drink of peppermint oil and sip it slowly.

Also, thenoseknows is correct. Antacids are horrible for you and neutralize your natural stomach acid you need to digest food which causes your stomach much more problems than it cures.

Natural remedies?

Are there any natural remedies out there for ovulating more often. I started tracking my temperature in October and have noticed I only ovulate every three months. I’ve seen my doctor, hormones are normal and the next step is the HSG procedure which I keep putting off because of expense and pain. Does anyone have any suggestions about natural remedies. I don’t have a lot of time. I’m 42.
Thanks in advance

Yes, taking vitex (chaste tree berry) help regulate cycles…It takes a couple months of regular use to see good results but it works and it’s safe to take until your 3 months pregnant or when your breastfeeding. The reason why they say only the first 3 months of pregnancy is because after that it can start to encourage milk production too early.

Natural remedies for psoriasis on nails and head?

Posted by admin on Jan 9, 2010 under Natural Remedies

I have had psoriasis on my thumb and forefinger since I’ve been 2, and I am looking for natural or OTC remedies to clear it up.

Hi, you can try one of the natural treatments for psoriasis from the Internet - some of them do actually work. For my psor. I use herbal cream by Champori quite successfully. It takes just a couple of weeks to clear the spots and they stay clear for months on end.
Try it: champori is available without prescription and comes with money back guarantee so if it doesn’t work for you - it’s free.

What are some natural remedies without medicatons for sleeping at night?

Posted by admin on Dec 17, 2009 under Natural Remedies

I’m prescribed lunesta, but i don’t take it because it leaves a terrible taste in my mouth all day the next day. What are some better ways to help me sleep at night? I usually just end up staying up for 2 or three nights straight and then i sleep really good that next night. but i wish i could actually sleep good every night. I hate taking medicine though. so anybody know any natural remedies. I do drink coffee but only in the morning. You don’t think i should give up coffee do you?

I tried lunesta too. It did not work very well as a sleep aid, and I agree about the terrible taste. Many people should not drink coffee after 3 PM. It’s unlikely you should give up your morning coffee unless you are hypersensitive to caffeine.

Below is a long list I once wrote about ways to fall asleep. The list is so long that reading it might put you to sleep :-) This list is the one that Tony I copied and pasted from me without my permission.

If nothing below works, email me and I can give you some suggestions about over the counter and prescription meds, if necessary. However, the natural remedies below are safer and free of side effects.

What helped me a lot to fall asleep, especially when my mind was racing, was to lie in bed and listen to relaxation CDs, especially those that contain someone speaking with relaxing music in the background. The combination of voice and music is very soothing. Many of these CDs are available on eBay for very low prices.

A warm bath is a great way to help you to sleep (depending on the season). If you can’t take a bath, you can give yourself a foot massage with slightly warm massage oil, sesame oil, or castor oil from a health food store.

A helpful technique is to relax your body one part at a time. So you could relax your feet, your lower legs, upper legs, moving up from your lower belly up to your chest, etc., until your whole body is relaxed.

Of course, guided relaxation methods can help. As vividly as possible, imagine yourself at the beach, in the mountains or country, or whatever is most soothing to you.

If you have annoying thoughts that run through your mind when you are trying to sleep, you might have to talk to a counselor or therapist about that. I suggest avoiding prescription sleeping pills unless nothing else helps.

There are herbs that might help you to sleep, eg, valerian root, kava kava, chamomile, hops, passion flower, skullcap. Probably, valerian root and kava kava are the best. However, what most people don’t realize is that it can take at least a few weeks for some herbs to build up in your system before they start to work.

The minerals calcium and magnesium might be helpful for sleep. You can also try 5-HTP or melatonin. I would not take melatonin for over a month unless your doctor says it is ok.
