What novel/ self-improvement book would you recommend?

Posted by admin on Aug 18, 2010 under Self Improvement

I’m a college student who is going through personal struggles. Most people don’t give me a chance voice my opinions nor do they listen. I’m so concerned about being judged and trying to always please others that I don’t know how to be myself anymore. I’m trying to be more confident and assertive. I need a book to read for the break that will help me understand that I can get past this and that I don’t have to have guilt & anxiety for fear of what people may think about me.

one I really liked is "how to win friends and influence other people"
It has been very useful in my life, Carnegies advice is useful in all endeavours, besides his motivation techniques are great too,

they have a review here… http://www.recommendedbookstoread.com/HowToWinFriendsandInfluencePeople.html

I particularly like his conflict resolution methods and negotiation strategies.

Is there any forums on the Internet for self-improvement?

I want a Internet forum whether they are brutal and criticize you in every move that you make. Their harshness forces you to grow and improve your self.

How about positive affirmations?

Can you be a counselor or give advice (life-coach/ Self improvement) with a Bachelors degree in psychology?

Posted by admin on Jun 18, 2010 under Self Improvement

I really want to do like self help, self improvement, spiritual (non-religious) counseling, life coaching…..

If you can, what are some restrictions?
For example, can you give advice (personal advice)?
etc….

I’m going to start my masters in MFT in August, but I want to do some counseling to gain experience while im doing it. I’m really entrepreneurial, so I want to do this as a business, like doing group and individual sessions. Any advice; anything helps. Thanks all!

It is against the law in many areas to present yourself as a counselor, social worker, psychologist, etc.without having a state license and the appropriate degree, which is at least a master’s. In your course work for an MFT you will have some kind of internship, where you will learn how to do counseling under the supervision of an experienced therapist. Most therapists, even those in private practice have a supervisory or consulting relationship with another therapist to help them when they run into difficult situations or feel they are moving in the wrong direction with a client. Would you know what to do with a suicidal client? With someone who is being abused? Will you know when a depressed person needs referral to a psychiatrist? Do you know what resources are available to help people? Suppose someone was unhappy with you as a therapist and decided to sue you for malpractice? Counseling is more than just having a pleasant chat with someone or handing out advice. There are issues of timing, deciding what approach will work with a particular client, ethical issues- all kinds of things that I doubt you are prepared for at this point.

Please, do not attempt a practice without supervision. At the very least, it is unethical and as I mentioned above, likely to be illegal.

Are there any good self improvement books for teenagers?

Posted by admin on Jun 7, 2010 under Self Improvement

They need motivation to be more responsible! I know they are "teenagers," but they could use a perspective that doesn’t come from a mother!

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens (Sean Covey wrote this book and it is based off his father’s book: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People)

http://www.amazon.com/Habits-Highly-Effective-Teens-Ultimate/dp/0684856093/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1275431790&sr=1-1

I received this book when I was a teenager and I really enjoyed reading it.

It looks like this book is also suggested:Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff for Teens: Simple Ways to Keep Your Cool in Stressful Times

http://www.amazon.com/Dont-Sweat-Small-Stuff-Teens/dp/0786885971/ref=pd_sim_b_9

When I was younger, I also enjoyed reading the Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul series books. It’s not really a self-help book, but rather a collection of stories written by other teenagers that helps you understand you’re not the only one facing similar issues.

http://www.amazon.com/Chicken-Soup-Teenage-Soul-Learning/dp/1558744630/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1275431910&sr=1-1

Good luck!

Why is it that the world nearly always relys on the white people and east asian people for self improvement?

Posted by admin on Apr 2, 2010 under Self Improvement

Why is that white, Japanese, Chinese people for example are nearly always the ones to improve all aspects of technology.

When in reality we get no thanks for it, black people for example are always the first to complain about how bad white people are , yet if it was not for us the world would be still stuck in the dark ages.

Why is it that white people are always the ones who have to liberalise the world?

I call it "inbreed laziness".

it’s inbreed into about 90%,(my guess via observation),of people of color, black being excepted as a color in this case.

I’m sure I just pissed off most blacks and unfortunately for me it’s the 90% who are at home collecting welfare and playing with govt bought computers.
I guess I’ll never learn.
To the other 10% I say congratulations you can now be hated as much as Condi Rice, my hero,
and I do mean she is a true champion.
I’m only half black so please don’t get any more angry with me then you would with,
oh lets say 0bama.

Self-improvement?

Posted by admin on Oct 22, 2009 under Self Improvement

I am a 28 year old lady, and recently started thinking of working on my self-imporvement. I figured it is good to start with the way I look - like keeping my nails done, thinking of color balance of the clothes I wear etc. I also started thinking abt health which encouraged me to join the gym and smoke less. Do you have any ideas of good ways of self-improvement? I feel I need to become a better person, also people who look nice and are positive and nice to everybody, tend to be more successful in their life. If you have any ideas of what areas in a person usually need improvement, and more importantly, the ways how you can become a better person, please drop a note! Thank you in advance.

Hello kavai,

Congrats on your decision to work on yourself to become the outstanding person you were designed to be.

Once you start to make the changes, you will not want to look back.

There are tons of self improvement tools available for you to help you in this journey. A good place to start is to pick one of the well known self improvement teachers and become a student of their work, either by reading, listening to audio, or even attending an event. You will find free information about self improvement teachers and concepts at http://www.self-improvement-to-personal-development.com/index.html.

It also has information about affirmations, inspirational quotes and other cool stuff.

Personally, I’ve been deeply involved in self improvement for over 10 years now. I would say you are unlikely to go wrong with anything Tony Robbins.

Also, you may want to check out some online forums dedicated to supporting one another in their self improvement quest. A really good one is http://www.successvibe.com/forum/

Hope this helps and to cheers to your continued personal wellness,

Kay

self-improvement…?

Posted by admin on Oct 3, 2009 under Self Improvement

my bf broke up with me because i was a bitch to him and had a lot of arguments. i want to become a better person in relationships and never treat guys badly again. how should i improve and feel better?

Hey there,

Firstly ask yourself why you were being so bitchy to your boyfriend. If you figure this out it will help you understand yourself and your relationships better thus being able to improve.

Just try to be yourself and if you are having an off day explain this to your partner so he doesn’t take it personally.

Good luck.

Cheers…
