Helping You Help Yourself

With all this emphasis on healthy living and lifestyles, why are their all-natural beauty contests?

Posted by admin on Jul 17, 2010 under Healthy Living

I have never heard of one but wouldn’t it be interesting to have a beauty contest where no cosmetics, hair extensions or dyed or permed hair, sprayed on tans, or plastic surgery were allowed in the contestants? Wonder how many would actually try out for such a contest?

I agree, that would be interesting. Natural beauty is an important thing and it’s what we’re all made to enjoy, anyway.

Self - Nose piercing, Hurts like a wasp sting to push through. Help?

Posted by admin on Jul 17, 2010 under Self Help

It’s pretty far into my nose, And I can just feel the very tip of the needle through the last layer of skin on the inside of my nose.
But it hurts sooooo freaking bad. It stings so bad, Like it’s going through a vein or a nerve or something.
Is that normal? Or is my placement wrong?
When I try to push it through it makes my right temple hurt.

Any type of piercing is going to hurt since you’re putting a hole through your skin. Looks like you’re just going to have to hold your breath, clench, and jab it through. Just get it over with there’s no easy way to pierce yourself. That’s why it’s best to go to professionals, they don’t feel your pain, and they have all the right utensils. Plus if something goes wrong you can sue them. Nothing much you can do if something goes wrong from a self piercing but blame yourself. My ear felt like that when I got my 3rds done. It was because she pierced between cartridge and lobe. Hurt like a Mofo! The pain will go away in a few weeks. =] Just ask yourself: How bad do I REALLY want this nose ring? Then answer yourself by pushing it through or pulling it out. It’s your call.

What are some good ideas for healthy living and how can I stick to it?

Posted by admin on Jul 14, 2010 under Healthy Living

Ok, So I want to become more healthy (not thin) and whenever I have tried a healthy living plan it always goes to pieces very quickly and I can’t think of good ideas. I am not talking all about food (though some ideas would be appreciated) I mean maybe some day to day things that will make me a bit more healthy
thanks :)
Start small like walking for 10 minutes once a day or waking up early just to do some yoga or stretches. You can also eat more organic foods like silk instead of milk and try eating more veggies and fruits and less red meat. Even reading would be good for healthy living so instead of watching tv, pick up a book or a magazine. Good Luck!

I really appreciate/need any self-help advice I can get…?

Posted by admin on Jul 14, 2010 under Self Help

Serious answers only please. I’m looking for a good self-help book, or something. I’m not sure what because I have never felt this down before and I need it to stop. Here’s a little bit about me:

I’m a college student going through a major slump right now. I basically got bullied by some immature girls and my bosses allowed it, the I ended up getting fired for sticking up for myself in a meeting. This job was making it possible for me to afford school, so now I don’t know if I’ll be able to return. I got a 3.165, I was expecting at least a 3.3. My grandpa died 2 months ago. 2 weeks after that we had to put my dog down. I have been looking for a job for the past month, nobody is hiring and those that are are not hiring me. I just got scammed with a $50 "background check" fee for a nonexistent job. My best friend, since 7th grade, planned a camping trip with another good friend of mine and they will be camping with another mutual friend and are seeing our whole "group" of college friends this weekend, we’re all college best friends. I found out about it 2 days ago and was not invited (I keep getting texts asking why I’m not coming, and all I can say back is "I wasn’t invited," which makes me feel extra shitty). I’m not sure why I wasn’t invited and who’s behind it. I also gained 20 lbs in the past year and a half, but cannot get motivated to work out (My weight has always been something I’m self-conscious of and the extra weight has destroyed my self-esteem. I blame my weight for not getting hired, not going out, and not having anyone more than a friend in my life).

I got out of school at the beginning of May and since then I have not gone out, or done anything besides sit around the house really. I don’t feel worthy to have fun (or to be any kind of sexually active). I’m embarrassed to have gained so much weight, still be jobless, and have gotten such shitty grades. I also am not a fan of most the people I live around. They are all skinny and rich, and have given the vibe that they think they are better than me for as long as I can remember. I have only kept in touch with a handful of people since high school, and out of those I only want to make an effort to hangout with 3 of them.

I’m going crazy not doing anything, but also do not want to do anything…if that makes any sense. It’s hard to explain. If anyone has any advice/can recommend a book to read to help me out of this slump, I’d really appreciate it. I’ve never felt like this before and I do not know what to do. I want to feel better before it can get any worse. I know this isn’t healthy. I am normally a happy person.

So you have had major stress events back to back….enter lack of B vitamins…stress loves to eat B vitamins like no tomorrow. Lack of B vitamins…enter depression/lack of motivation/low serotonin central. I can highly recommend B vitamins (under the tongue oral vitamin sprays are brillant - 20 seconds into the blood stream). Digestive enzyme supplements are fantastic to help with digestive problems and losing weight. As for books, you could look through google books…some have most of the book to read online.

what therapy (and what does this involve) would a psychologist use to help one with self esteem issues?

Posted by admin on Jun 25, 2010 under Self Help

what does this type of therapy involve.
I have been speaking to a psychologist for 6 weeks now because I was ostracized by my husband’s entire family but all I have done is talk to the psychologist about whatever I feel like talking about. I have plenty of friends to do that with (and they are free).

There’s quiet a few.

The best for most depression & anxiety is

Cognitive Behaviour therapy, see link.

http://moodgym.anu.edu.au/welcome

Free too.

There’s also Rational Emotive Therapy

invented by Albert Elis.

And many others.

Client Centred Counselling is good too.

And may others too.

Best Wishes.

Natural remedies to reduce swelling and get rid of bruising?

Posted by admin on Jun 21, 2010 under Natural Remedies

I pulled my quad playing softball and its really swollen and extremely bruised. Ive been to the doctor and everything .and so I have a prognosis. I just want the swelling to go down. Any natural home remedies to reduce swelling (other than the RICE method) and any remedies to getting rid of bruises quickly ??
Thanks!

this is probably too late for now but if you put it on right away arnica is an herb that can reduce bruising quite successfully I have read. Be sure it is the herb and not a homopathic one which many are]

One like herbpharm arnica oil would be recommended. You could get some now for the future and try it but I am not sure if it will help once the bruising sets in.

there are some suggestions here though that may well help

be sure you try to get organic herbs and if possible tinctures (these are liquid extracts with brown glass bottles with eye dropper tops) rather than capsuled herbs for best results
